Hybrid side event “Landscape Forestry in the Tropics: Science meets Policy”

The side event “Landscape Forestry in the Tropics: Science meets Policy” at XV. World Forestry Congress in Seoul, Korea was organised by Thünen Institute of Forestry, PD Dr Sven Günter, Dr Eliza Zhunusova, Dr Richard Fischer, Dr Melvin Lippe and Prof Matthias Dieter in cooperation with Copperbelt University, Zambia; Universidad Estatal Amazónica, Ecuador University of the Philippines Los Baños; Ministry of the Environment, Water and Ecological Transition, Ecuador; Forest Foundation Philippines; WeForest, Zambia.

It presented key research findings of the Landscape Forestry in the Tropics (LaForeT) project from Ecuador, Philippines and Zambia on (i) addressing drivers of deforestation and degradation, (ii) improving forest governance, and (iii) consequences on livelihoods and ecosystem services (e.g. carbon, provisioning services and biodiversity indicators). The event was attended by up to 40 persons in presence and up to 52 participants attending online via Zoom.
